Lunch and Learn – Turfgrass Selection for Lawns

Our lawns are one of the most important components of our home landscape. Several types of turfgrasses thrive in our area and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Whether it be tall fescue grass, bermudagrass, or another, learn more about them and how they can be sued in your lawn. Clint Waltz, UGA Turfgrass Extension Specialist will be the presenter.

Journeyman Farmers Certificate Program Small Farm Business Planning

June 5, 2026, 8:00am to 4:00pm

Cost: $80

This program was developed in partnership with the UGA Small Business Development Center, the Georgia Department of Agriculture, and Georgia Organics. Topics include lessons learned from successful small farms, market feasibility, balance sheets, income statements, risk management, marketing and technology, as well as preparing a business plan.  Lunch and Learn – Myths and Facts about Organic Gardening

Organic gardening is not what everyone thinks it is, such as no pesticides or fertilizers. Like anything else, it has its advantages and disadvantages. The practice is more labor intensive but is doable with proper planning. Whitney Ottinger, Sustainable Agriculture Coordination with the UGA Center for Urban Agriculture, will be the presenter.

Food Preservation - Pickling Kosher Dill

June 9, 2026, 5:30pm-8:30pm

Cost: $20

Canning can be a safe and economical way to safely preserve quality food at home and reduce consumer waste. It is of value in developing sustainable meal options, following The National Center for Home Food Preservation guidelines. The So Easy to Preserve book is offered if you want to know more about safe and approved preservation methods.

This food preservation workshop will cover methods of preserving food safely taught by University of Georgia Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, Tracey Saxton. The focus on this workshop will be pickling kosher dills. The class size is limited to 20 participants, register early. The costs will go to gathering the materials because the food that is prepared in the class can be taken home.
