Georgia State 4-H Horse Show and Educational Contests

The Georgia State 4-H Horse Show and Educational Contest is held each June at the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agriculture Center in Perry, Georgia. The state horse show offers 4-H’ers and opportunity to participate in English, Western and Running Division classes.  There are no qualifying shows, and you can enter the State Show simply by being an active member of the Lamar County 4-H Program and owning or leasing your horse by March 1 of the current year. 

Entry Requirements:

Rules and entry forms for the State 4-H Horse Show can be obtained from the Lamar County Extension/4-H Office and on the Lamar County 4-H website.

Eligibility:

  • Own or lease a 4-H project horse by March 1, 2025
  • Be an active, enrolled 4-Her in the county where you live or attend school
  • Submit a Novice Horseman Manual.  The Novice Horseman Book is the first in a series of three manuals offered to document Horsemanship skills gained through the Georgia 4-H Horse Program. All participants should complete a new Novice Horseman 4-H Horse Project Manual each year.

Items for Submission:

Intent to Show Form which includes proof of ownership or lease of horses.  This form is due to the Lamar County Extension/4-H Office by March 7, 2025.  Please complete an Intent to Show Form for every horse you plan to show.

Manual:

Cloverleaf and junior 4-H’ers must complete at least half of the Novice Horseman 4-H Horse Project Manual and senior 4-Hers must complete all of this book by April 29, 2025. All participants should complete a new Novice Horseman 4-H Horse Project Manual each year.

 

The Georgia State 4-H Horse Show Educational Contest

The Georgia State 4-H Horse Show also offers 4-H’ers an opportunity to exhibit their knowledge of horses through art, writing, visual aids, and speech.  Participation in any of the educational contests requires that a 4-H’er submit an entry form(s) to the Lamar County Extension/4-H Office by April 29, 2025.
