2023 Season Information

The 2023 Fresh on DeK season has ended, and  we are proud to share our end of the year report.

We are dedicated to educating residents of DeKalb County about the importance of healthy eating. This year, Fresh on DeK partnered with local community organizations to bring fresh, low cost produce to food deserts within DeKalb County. Our pop-up markets, offered in conjunction with weekly virtual nutrition and healthy living educational sessions offered a comprehensive approach to addressing food insecurity and health disparities in our community.

  • During the 16 week Fresh on DeK season, we reached 4,866 residents with the pop-up mobile market.
  • Fresh on DeK selected 16 sites in DeKalb County to service. Strategically selected through an annual application process, Fresh on DeK selected 16 sites in food deserts to deliver programming. In order to be classified as a food desert, the location could not have a major retailer selling fresh produce within one mile.
  • During the 16 week Fresh on DeK season, we reached 4,866 residents with the pop-up mobile market.
  • This year, 1,857 people attended our virtual educational sessions. Live weekly classes were recorded and posted on Facebook and YouTube. All class participants received a discount voucher for produce at the market. The average reported monthly economic impact totaled $2,025.
  • During the 16 week season, Fresh on DeK donated about 2,150 pounds of produce to local nonprofit organizations. Partners ranged from local church food drives to community support programs, all of whom utilized fresh produce to supplement their ongoing pursuit to relieve food insecurity in DeKalb County.
