What is UGA Extension?

The University of Georgia (UGA) Exension office operates through a unique partnership with local county governments, the state of Georgia and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We translate the science of everyday living for farmers, families, and communities to foster a healthy and prosperous DeKalb county.
 
For more than a century, we've provided research-based education through a network of committed specialists, agents and volunteers to help Georgians learn, grow and do more.

Our regular office hours are 8:30 am- 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. These hours are subject to change during holidays.

  • Jan 1 - Apr 29 4-H Stuff the Bus for Summer Camp 4-H Stuff the Bus for Summer Camp Let’s Make Summer Camp a Reality for 50 Students! What is the 4-H Bus Initiative? We’re on a mission to sponsor 20 students for an unforgettable 4-H Summer Camp experience! For just $440 per student, we can provide a week of hands-on learning, leadership development, and lifelong memories. Many students in our community may not afford this opportunity without your support. How You Can Help: - $440: Fully sponsor one student’s camp experience. - $220: Provide half the cost for a student. - $100, $50, or $25: Contribute to the general camp fund.

  • Apr 7 Apple Grafting Workshop Join us for a hands-on, educational afternoon on Tuesday, April 7th, at 3:00 p.m., where you'll take home five grafted apple trees to start your own home orchard! Registration is $40 and includes all materials needed to successfully join the rootstock and scion. Expert grafter and Cherokee County ANR Agent, Josh Fuder, will lead this class at the Ferman Gregory Agriculture Center, located just outside of Toccoa in Stephens County, GA. Spots are limited, so register today! The last day to register and secure your spot is April 1st, 2026.   • Apr 9 Youth Mental Health First Aid Training Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders. Online Pre-work will be sent via email, two weeks prior to training session. Pre-work is required for in-person participation.
