Our Impact
More than 65 percent of peanut growers in Mitchell County use preventative treatments for nematode control. Mitchell County Cooperative Extension agents initiated on-farm demonstration trials to document the effectiveness of a new peanut variety called Tiftguard with nematode resistance. Tiftguard performed well with no significant yield differences comparing the low and medium nematicide rates. This study helps growers gain confidence in planting the Tiftguard variety with the potential of reducing additional nematode control inputs.
