Central Park Home Gardening Workshops

From planning to harvesting we’ll take you through what you need to know to start a home garden. You do not have to register for all classes to attend. All classes will be held from 10-11:30am at Central Park. Class size is limited, registration through Parks and Rec is required. Choose Central Park from the left-side menu, choose Special Events/Programs from the top menu.

Use of paraquat is restricted to certified pesticide applicators who have completed an EPA-approved safety training. To help ensure safety and compliance in Georgia, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, Forsyth County Extension will host an in-person viewing of the live Paraquat Training webinar presented by Syngenta. Training attendees will receive a paraquat applicator certificate that is good for three years. Attendees will also receive 1 hour of recertification credit for their pesticide applicator license.

Registration is required. Attendees must present their pesticide applicator license and identification and be present for the entire program to receive paraquat certification and 1-hour of pesticide applicator continuing education credit. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 1:45 p.m. for check-in. There is no fee for this training.

Interested in leaning more about trees and the importance of native species? You’re invited to join Forsyth County Mater Naturalists who will lead tree walks at different areas of the county this spring! Each walk will be proceeded by a quick discussion about tree identification, and the walks will happen on trails that are easy to access and navigate. The walk will cover roughly 1-1/2 miles. The current dates are:

 

 

  • Thursday, April 25th at 2pm - Sawnee Mountain Preserve
  • Saturday, May 4th at 9:30am - Central Park
  • Thursday, May 9th at 9:30am - Fowler Park

Please register for a walk so that our Master Naturalists know how many people to expect.

Our upcoming dates are Saturday, May18th, from 10AM-12PM and Tuesday, June 4th, 2-4PM at our 5110 Piney Grove Road Extension Office. Pesticide Certification Renewal

Pesticide applicator recertification credit class: Session 1: Pesticide Movement in the Environment & Session 2: Insect and Fungal Pests in Urban Trees

Forsyth County Extension is hosting these two 1-hour webinar for professional pesticide applicators at the Forsyth County Extension Office, 5110 Piney Grove Road, Cumming, GA 30040. Recertification credits available:

Session 1: Private/ category 10 and Commercial categories 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 31: 1 credit

Session 2: Private/ category 10 and Commercial categories 21, 23, 24: 1 credit

Registration fee: $20
