April and May 2025 tree walks

The Forsyth County Extension Office announces that its popular educational tree walks around various county parks and the Big Creek Greenway will resume in early April. These events which are free to the general public provide valuable instruction on the importance of native trees to the environment, why invasive species are of an increasing concern and how to identify various species. These walks will be led by experienced Forsyth County Master Naturalist Extension Volunteers. Each walk will be scheduled around some natural area in the county and will take place on sites that are easy to walk and that cover roughly one to one & one-half miles. Each walk will be preceded by a brief talk to acquaint attendees with the keys to identifying individual species. Here is the initial schedule of walks planned for this coming spring:

May 20 (a Tuesday) at Central Park off of Hwy 306 at 5:30 pm. We will meet in the parking lot outside of the Recreation Center.

May 23 (a Friday) at Sawnee Mountain Park Preserve, the entrance off of Bettis Tribble Gap Road at 5:30 pm.

June 11 (a Wednesday) at Sawnee Mountain Park Preserve, in the visitor center parking lot off of Spot Rd., at 9:30am.

If you would like to join us for one or more of these walks, please RSVP using this from so that we can prepare a sufficient number of handouts to accommodate the group: https://forms.gle/SR65SLj8DU8DoApb7
