Story in Brief

Financially literate individuals are more likely to plan for retirement and to have an emergency savings fund, and less likely to engage in credit behaviors that generate high interest payments and fees. The UGA Cooperative Extension agent and program assistant in McIntosh County piloted a program entitled Your Money Your Future. A team of UGA Cooperative Extension agents and specialists developed the series of six interactive basic financial management lessons for middle school youth. A total of 943 matched pre- and post-tests were received from participants in 20 counties. McIntosh County returned 60. Analysis showed significant increase in knowledge.
