Our Impact
The director of Head Start called the UGA Cooperative Extension agent in Pickens county because insects were biting students and teachers while kids were on the playground. A pest control operator had quoted them a price of $2,800 to treat the playground for a mite. School personnel collected samples of the offending insects for the agent to identify. He sent the sample through the DDDI system at UGA to determine the problem. Meanwhile, the agent recommended the school system spray the site to save money, as they had been trained recently by Cooperative Extension. A UGA entomologist determined that the insect was one that would be untouched by the pest control operator's recommendations. The ability of the county agent to quickly travel to the site, evaluate the circumstances and use DDDI was a budget saver for this facility.
