2021 Cobb 4-H Plant Sale

Join Cobb 4-H as we host our annual Cobb 4-H Plant Sale Fundraiser to raise funds for 4-H youth development and ANR programming! “To Plant a Garden is to Believe in Tomorrow” by Audrey Hepburn is our plant sale them for the year. 2020 was a tough year for everyone. Kick off 2021 by shaking off the pandemic, soothing your soul, and planting a garden for a better tomorrow! Not only is gardening therapeutic, but many of the plants offered will get your yard ready for spring by adding color and vibrancy to brighten your days. 2021 is a brand new year! Plant Sale pre-orders will be taken from January 4-March 5, 2021 at the Cobb County Extension Office. We have limited quantities of all varieties! Plants are sold on a first come, first serve basis. Plant Sale pick up day will be held on Saturday March 20th from 9am-1pm at the  Jim Miller Park covered arena. How can you pre-order your plants? Stop by the Cobb County Extension Office Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm and place your order in person with a Visa/MasterCard/Discover Card, cash, check, or money order. You can also mail your plant sale order form with a check or money order to our office as well. Our mailing address is 678 South Cobb Drive Suite 200 Marietta, GA 30060. Cloverleaf County Virtual Public Speaking Contest

Open to all 4th-6th students! Join the fun and compete at our first virtual County Cloverleaf Project Achievement Public Speaking contest! We typically host this event in person but are making a change for 2021.  Prizes will be awarded to county winners. The top 4 winners in each category will advance to the district contest and will earn a reward day trip later in the spring! 

How do you get started?

1. Pick a topic that interests YOU! It can be anything!

2. Research that topic using credible resources

3. Write your speech! Include an introduction (with a catchy hook), three body paragraphs highlighting your topic, and a conclusion.

4. Create your poster! It can be a trifold board or regular poster board. Be sure to use large words and pictures so that your poster can be seen clearly in the video submission! Your poster should compliment your speech.

5. Time yourself! Your speech should be 4-6 minutes long!

6. Other important items: Film your video where you and your poster can be seen, use props if you have them, be animated and enthusiastic! Consider putting your speech on index cards.

November Community Service Night

Open to all 4th-12th grade 4-H'ers! Join us for a fun-filled face to face community service event on Thursday November 19th from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Extension Office!  Our community service projects will be creating tie blankets, Thanksgiving placemats, and thank you cards for the service nurses and doctors who are providing care to those infected by the COVID-19 virus. This event is limited to the first 12 4-Hers to sign up in order to comply with our COVID-19 guidelines. Temperatures will be checked and masks are required. Healthy Living Day Camp

Open to all 4th-8th graders! Join us for a fun healthy living face to face event on Wednesday December 2nd from 9:00am-4:00pm at the Cobb Extension Office. The day camp will cover five lessons based on: Food Insecurity and Food Budgeting, Stress, Mental Health & Healthy Snacks, Cooking Skills & Food Safety, and Physical Activity. At the Healthy Living Day Camp, 4-Hers will learn about healthy living through our four lessons while engaging in various fun, hands-on activities! The cost is $10 per child. Limited to the first 12! Virtual Book Club

Cobb County 4-H is beginning a book club for 4th-8th grade 4-H'ers! The book club will meet every other Wednesday from 4:00pm-4:30pm via Zoom. Registration has officially closed but it's not too late to join! The book choice for the club is A Wrinkle in Time. Interested in your child joining the Book Club? Purchase your book, turn in your 4-H paperwork, and email AmeriCorps Member Kennedy Deveaux at kennedy.deveaux@uga.edu to sign up today!

 

Virtual Cooking Club

Join our UGA Extension Family Consumer Science Agent Zoe S as you cook along side her for our monthly Virtual Cooking Club! These events are held via Zoom once month from 5:00pm-7:00pm. To receive the registration link each month email zsoltanmammedova@uga.edu 

All 4-H programming paperwork must be on file prior to receiving the Zoom login information.

Cloverbuds

Want to join 4-H but think you're too young to join? Join our pre-4-H Cloverbuds Club for K-3rd grade students. Meetings are held once a month on Wednesdays. This fall the meetings will be held virtually via Zoom with an accompanying activity kit. Kits will be $25 for all 4-H members. There will be TWO Cloverbuds Clubs, a homeschool club that meets during the day from 10:00am-11:00am and a general 4-H Cloverbuds Club that meets in the evenings from 6:00pm-7:00pm. Both clubs meet on the same day via Zoom this fall. Registration for both clubs will open on Thursday August 20th. Kits must be purchased at the Extension Office no later than September 1st to receive supplies and allow time for pick up prior to the first meeting. Kit payments can be made by calling the Extension Office at 770-528-4070 via phone with a credit card or in person at the Extension Office located 678 South Cobb Drive Marietta, GA 30060 Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm.

SPIN Club- Kitchen Science (Session 1)

Join Cobb 4-H for our first SPiN club (SPecial INterest) Club! Open to any K-12th grade students that are interested in learning more about food science and the science of all things edible! The club will meet each Monday throughout the month of October from 4pm-5pm via Zoom to participate in an engaging kitchen science lesson and to complete an activity that comes with the SPIN club kit. All club members must purchase the kit to participate in club activities. The cost is $25 and covers the cost of all supplies* (any perishable items must be supplied by the family). Kits can be purchased in person at the Extension Office Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm OR by calling the office at 770-528-4070 to pay with a Visa/MasterCard/Discover. Registration opens on Thursday August 20th. Kits must be purchased at the Extension Office no later than September 18 to receive supplies and allow time for kitpick up prior to the first meeting.

SPIN Club- STEAM with a Harry Potter Twist (Session 2)

Join Cobb 4-H for our session 2 SPiN club (SPecial INterest) Club! Open to K-12th grade students that LOVE science, art, and Harry Potter! The club will meet each Monday throughout the month of November from 4pm-5pm via Zoom to participate in an engaging STEAM lesson and to complete an activity that comes with the SPIN club kit. All club members must purchase the kit to participate in club activities. The cost is $25 and covers the cost of all supplies* (any perishable items must be supplied by the family). Kits can be purchased in person at the Extension Office Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm OR by calling the office at 770-528-4070 to pay with a Visa/MasterCard/Discover. Registration opens on Thursday August 20th. Kits must be purchased at the Extension Office no later than October 23 to receive supplies and allow time for pick up prior to the first meeting.

Young Farmers Club

Are you interested in gardening, animals, and learning more about agriculture engineering in Cobb County? Join the Young Farmers Club sponsored by UGA Extension and Cobb County Farm Bureau! Meetings are open to 4th-12th grade students however younger sibilings are welcome. Meetings are held once a month on Wednesdays via Zoom this Fall. When in person meetings resume, they will be held at the Cobb County Farm Bureau Office located at 2850 Powder Springs Rd SW Marietta, GA 30064 from 6:00pm- 7:00pm. Horse and Pony Club

The Cobb County 4-H Horse and Pony Club is looking for new members! You do not have to own a horse or a pony to be a member of this club. Open to 4th-12th grade students. Meetings are typically held monthly from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the Extension Office located at 678 South Cobb Drive Marietta, GA 30060. Fall meetings will be held virtually or at a barn where social distancing measures can take place. Club dues are $30 for the year. Homeschool Club

It's all about the environmental  science this fall with the Cobb County 4-H Homeschool Club. This semester, the club will be open to 4th-12th grade students. All meetings will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm at the Cobb County Extension Office located at 678 South Cobb Drive Marietta, GA 30060. Two sessions of the same course will be offered. Limited to 9 students per session to accomodate social distancing measures. The cost is $25 for the fall session. Registration will open on Thursday August 20th. Archery Team

The Cobb County 4-H Archery team will enter its fourth season during the 2020-2021 school year. 4th-12th grade students are eligible to compete ith the archery team. The team members are also members of Kennesaw Archery Club (KAC). Archers shoot compound or recurve bows depending on preference. The team will compete at various tournaments and competitions. More information will be available for archery as we evaluate programming through COVID-19. Please contact Brittani Lee at bkelley@uga.edu to sign up for archery club interest list!

Shotgun Team 

The Cobb County 4-H Shotgun team will enter its fourth season during the 2020-2021 school year. Open to 7th-12th grade youth. The team shoots trap and skeet and sporting clays. The season will start in early 2021. The team will compete at two competitions during the season culminating with the state competition in Savannah the last weekend of May. Any youth that are interested in joining the team for the 2020-2021 school year, email Brittani Lee at bkelley@uga.edu
