4-H Judging Teams
Cotton Boll and Consumer Judging
Cotton Boll and Consumer Judging is a competition in which 4-H'ers expand their knowledge of various consumer products and learn to make smart and rational spending decisions. They also learn and prepare a presentation on a topic of their choosing about how cotton enriches their lives.
Poultry Judging
Poultry Judging teaches 4-H youth how to judge live birds, grade eggs, grade ready to cook poultry, and identify poultry parts. It also provides experience in organizing thoughts and defending decisions with oral reasons presented to a judge. In this contest, 4-H'ers learn to judge laying hens based on national standards and quality, where they evaluate and testify why they believe one places better than the other.
Livestock Judging
Livestock Judging is a competition where 4-H'ers evaluate various classes of beef cattle, sheep, goats, and swine. In livestock judging, classes will consist of four animals of the same species in similar age and breed makeup. These animals are ranked from best to worst based on their physical attributes and potential ability to serve their given purpose; such as breeding classes and market classes. Participants also learn to defend their decisions through oral reasons, building confidence, communication skills, and critical thinking.
Wildlife Judging
Wildlife Judging challenges 4-H youth to learn about Georgia wildlife species as well as habitat, population, and fish pond/stream management practices for conservation success. In wildlife judging, students learn to evaluate habitats and make recommendations for modifications to benefit the target species in those habitats.
