UGA Extension Office

Identification Services

Proper identification is critical for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and the proper use of pesticides in agriculture and horticulture situations. It is also helpful to the clientele that just want information on that weed, flower, shrub or tree growing in their landscape.

Disease organisms such as fungi, bacteria, and viruses can damage and/ or kill a wide variety of plant materials in Georgia. It is essential to identify the organism accurately before implementing control strategies on plants and turfgrass.

Douglas County Identification Services include:

  • Insects
  • Plants/Weeds
  • Plant diseases/disorders
  • Turfgrass diseases/disorders

Instructions on collecting samples for identification can vary depending on the issue, please contact our office for more information.

*Attention* Samples identified in the office are free of charge, however some samples that need to be shipped to the UGA Lab are subject to fees including but not limited to shipping.
