About UGA Extension Gwinnett

UGA Extension Gwinnett County offers educational programs in the areas of horticulture and agriculture, food safety and nutrition, and leadership and citizenship for youth. UGA Extension operates through a unique partnership with Gwinnett County, the University of Georgia, the State of Georgia and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Backed by specialists and a network of resources, Extension Agents have been on the job in Georgia since 1914.

Agriculture & Natural Resources

Our agents provide free educational programs to the public about plant identification, plant diseases, insect identification, pest control, and soil and water testing, through regularly scheduled classes and personal consultations. We show teachers how to start a school garden and provide professional pesticide applicators environmental protection training on the safe use of fertilizers. Educational programs are offered to landscape professionals on how to improve landscapes using environmentally safe practices.

4-H

Our 4-H Youth Education and Development program is delivered via in-school programming, after-school clubs, summer camp experiences and guided activities that help students become successful contributing members of society. Gwinnett 4-H’ers learn and practice leadership skills using a STEM-related curriculum designed to meet Georgia Performance Standards and Gwinnett Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) standards. In addition, learning takes place after school, at grade-level council meetings, special interest club meetings, summer camps, fundraising and community service projects, and through competitive Project Achievement events at district and state competitions.

Family & Consumer Sciences

Our Family and Consumer Sciences agents are nutrition and food safety specialists who help grow strong families and healthy kids. We show you how to lose weight, exercise, prevent and control diseases, make healthy food choices, and keep food safe based on the latest research. Also, we help you get the most from your time and money by understanding how to manage cash-flow, credit, save and invest, protect your identity, and live on less. Furthermore, we provide the latest resources to make smart choices with green cleaning recipes, radon testing, pest control, and saving energy and water.
