Extension Serves the Entire Community

Jasper County Extension offers a wealth of information and services to residents of our county. Our Agriculture and Natural Resources programs provide research -based information, educational programming, and resources to homeowners and commercial clientele in a variety of areas. Water and soil testing information and access to UGA publications are available through our office as well. 
 

ANR Agent

Derrick Jones has been with Jasper County Extension since July 2022.

Before coming to Jasper County, Derrick served as a 4-H/Agriculture Agent for Auburn University in Henry County, AL, an Agriculture Teacher/FFA advisor for 7 years, an Assistant Principal/CTAE Director in Hart County, GA for 12 years and a Vice Principal in Alaska for 3 years.

  • Feb 29 Help on the Homestead Series Do you have small acreage and want to begin a farm? Join us for this program series where we will learn about different farming pathways for small acreage!   This series will have a weekly session on Thursdays in which we will focus on a different homesteading topic! Each of the sessions is from 6:00-7:00 at the Hart EMC Meeting Room. When you register, you will be able to select which of the classes you would like to attend, whether that is just one or all five! The following are the dates and topics for the five Help on the Homestead sessions:  Session One: February 15 - Goat and Sheep Production Session Two: February 22 - Managing Small Scale Beef Operations Session Three: February 29 - Managing Backyard Flocks Session Four: March 7 - Home Fruit and Vegetable Production  Session Five: March 14 - Food Preservation and Taking your Products to Market We hope to see you in February and March to learn more about how to get the most out of your small acreage!

  • Mar 4 Soil Health Field Day The Global Growers farm team will share three years of organic soil improvement strategies, and expert soil scientists will take a deeper dive into testing methods, reading results, and the art of matching improvement strategies to the specific needs of different soil types. An overview of USDA and local Extension Resources that support soil health will be provided.
