4-H Agriculture Day

Charlton County 4-H Ag Day was an event designed to get the community together to learn more about agriculture and the impact agriculture has on our community.

Charlton County is a very rural community in Southeast Georgia. The current population is 13,040. This small community is known for its booming timber industry and local timber businesses.  57.67% of land in Charlton County is covered in timber. Being that timber is the commodity grown in the county, there is a lack of knowledge about other agriculture products. For Charlton County 4-H, it is top priority to educate youth to understand “where their food comes from”, helping to grow a more literate society with basic knowledge for the importance of agriculture to our daily lives. The 4-H staff developed the idea to partner with their local Chamber of Commerce and host a community wide agriculture day to educate and inform the community more about agriculture and its importance.

The Charlton County 4-H Programs is excited for the opportunity to host this annual community wide Agriculture Day. This year’s event will be on March 10, 2023 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Charlton County High School Ag barn. We plan to have agricultural businesses and supporters set up with educational booths to teach our community more about agriculture. We also want to support our local businesses and give them the opportunity to set up a booth and sell their products.

“This event has allowed me to really think about everything I use in my daily life that is an agriculture product. The agriculture industry has a huge impact on our lives and it is important to have events like this to showcase it”. –Adult Participant
