ABOUT BROOKS COUNTY AG LEARNING TRAIL

University of Georgia/Brooks County Extension and the Brooks County School System are partnering to educate Brooks County children about agriculture in an outdoor and manually instructional learning environment. This educational experience for students and the community has been possible through project development and implementation of the Brooks County AG Learning Trail/Outdoor Classroom (BC AG Learning Trail). The BC AG Learning Trail is located behind the Brooks County Library and features six raised beds/ learning stations designed to engage participants with hands on learning activities. The strategical placement of the Brooks County AG Learning Trail, in a publicly accessible location, encourages visitors of all ages to discover and explore agriculture, the largest economic industry in the state of Georgia and Brooks County. The objective of the BC AG Learning Trail/Outdoor Classroom is to promote Georgia agriculture with an understanding and appreciation of where our food supply comes from, how food commodities are produced, and supporting Farm to Fork educational efforts with community youth. In addition, providing an outdoor educational environment for youth will support the development of confidence, creativity, responsibility. As community youth organizations such as 4-H and FFA, as well as Brooks County classrooms, assume responsibility and plant seasonal raised beds, the participating youth will gain a greater understanding and appreciation for agriculture.
