Portfolios

What is a portfolio?

Portfolios are for 7th-12th graders. It is a resume of activities throughout the year that goes from January 1-December 31 of the current year.  4-H portfolios demonstrate to others what a 4-H'er has done in a project area, leadership, and citizenship.  In short, the portfolio shares the 4-H'ers progress and growth with the judges.

Why do a portfolio?

A portfolio is required for 7th-12th graders to attend Jr/Sr Project Achievement at Rock Eagle. It is judged separately from demonstrations and accounts for 40% of a Junior's overall score and 50% of a Senior's. It helps to show interest in your project area and involvement in 4-H.

When are they due?

Complete portfolios are due to our office at the end of December

Junior Portfolios

  • 4-H'ers who received first place in a Junior 4-H project are ineligible to compete in that Junior project area again.

  • The Junior Portfolio is a total of 4 pages:
    • Cover Certification Page
    • Two Summary pages of Accomplishments
    • One Supporting Material Page (pictures/visuals)
  • The portfolio must be typed on white paper with black ink. All pages of the portfolio should contain information on one side only of 8 ½ x 11 inch paper, with a minimum of one-half inch margins on all four sides. No art work pictures, or clip art are allowed on these pages. Computer generated bullets may be used to highlight information.
  • Supporting material may be any color with any clipart or additional decorations. Pages should lay flat without shingling. Layering of supporting material is allowed and material may go to the edges of the paper (no margin is required). 4-H'ers may include any assortment of photographs, news clippings, letters, news articles, and such to support the work listed on the accomplishment pages.


Senior Portfolios

  • Senior 4-H'ers who place first at Jr/Sr Project Achievement go on to compete at State Congress over the summer. 4-H'ers who place first at State Congress become a Master 4-H'er and are ineligible to compete again in Project Achievement. 4-H'ers who place first and Jr/Sr Project Achievement and do not win at State Congress are eligible to compete in the same project area again.

    • Cover letter
    • Two summary pages
    • Two supporting material pages (pictures/visuals)
    • Certification page
