• Jan 26 - Feb 28 Journeyman Farmer Small Fruit and Vegetable Training Registration Open for March Classes UGA Extension in Carroll & Paulding Counties are hosting a Journeyman Farmer Certification program that provides comprehensive training for beginning farmers. Registration closes on February 27. Class dates are listed below. The program requires a two-step training: Step 1 - Small Farm Business Planning-In person, Monday March 9 - 9 am until 5 pm. Step 2 – Step 2- Small Fruit & Vegetable Production In-person training (with required at-home, online preparation) Monday, March 16, 23, and 30- 9 am until 4 pm. Step 3- Hands-on-Production & Intern/Mentorship Opportunities -By application, dependent on availability of mentor/intern farm and successful completion of Steps 1 and 2. Cost for Part 1: $25 Cost for Part 2: $75 *Participants must complete Step One Small Farm Business Planning before participating in Step Two. • Feb 19 Arbor Day Seedling Give Away Georgia Arbor Day-Drive Up Seedling giveaway from 12:00 pm until 4 pm or until all seedlings have a new home! Keep Paulding Beautiful and Paulding Master Gardener Extension Volunteers want you to plant a seedling for Arbor Day. Receive a free tree seedling at the Paulding County Extension Office Circle Drive. One free seedling to each person until we run out of trees. The seedlings are bare-root native trees from the Georgia Forestry Commission nursery. Paulding County Extension Office, 530 West Memorial Drive, Dallas, GA 30132. We do not yet know what tree species the seedlings will be, but look for an announcement on our Facebook Event on February 16!

• Mar 16 Master Gardener Scholarship Application Deadline Paulding County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers are offering a scholarship to Paulding County residents that are incoming college freshmen or students attending post-secondary accredited institutions. The Paulding County Master Gardener Extension Volunteer scholarship gives first consideration to students in the following fields of study: Agriculture, Horticulture, Landscaping, Forestry, Botany, Biology, and related fields. The total amount to be awarded will be administered by a scholarship committee and is normally in the range of $500-$1500. Learn more and complete the application as outlined on the Master Gardener Extension Volunteer Scholarship webpage. Deadline for submission is March 17, 2025 at 5 pm.
