Jun 1 - Aug 12 Applications for the 2026 Northwest Georgia Master Naturalist Program are available The Georgia Master Naturalist Program is a hands-on environmental education course that explores Georgia's habitats and ecosystems and the human impacts on these environments. This 9-week program consists of weekly field trips with in-depth lectures from experts on a variety of environmental and ecological topics. Transportation can be arranged for limited number of participants from one of the three host counties. The program days are from 9:00am to 4:00pm, not including drive time. Registration is complete once you have completed the online application and paid the fee in full through the Cobb County Extension Office. Space is limited and registration will remain open until August 12 or when all spaces are filled. You can mark your calendar for these program dates: August 27-Master Naturalist Orientation, Fridays in September: September 11, September 18, September 25. Thursdays in October: October 1, October 8, October 15, October 22, October 29-30-Overnight-Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center

Jun 9 Working with Native Plants in Your Garden hosted by the Conyers Garden Club Join the Conyers Garden Club for a special National Garden Week program on June 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM. This year’s topic, “Working with Native Plants in Your Garden,” will inspire gardeners to incorporate more native species while offering practical ideas for getting started. Our speakers, Victoria Hull, Spalding County Agriculture & Natural Resources Agent, and Andrew Carroll with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, will share their combined expertise and discuss their work transforming part of their community garden into a native pollinator garden. The presentation will last approximately 45 minutes.

Whether you already have a draft or have no idea where to begin, join me as I go over key factors to consider when building your college list, differentiate the application platforms, highlight a few scholarship opportunities, break down the main components of the application process, and provide you with writing tips. After the presentation, you’ll have time to work on your essays and receive feedback from both peers and me. Bring your questions and your laptop if you prefer typing your essay! This workshop is at the Flint River Regional Library System (800 Memorial Drive Griffin, GA 30223). It is workshop 2 out of 4 this summer 2026; attend upcoming workshops (July 7, July 21) at the UGA Extension Spalding County office for additional support!
