S.A.F.E. Shooting Sports
Georgia 4-H Project SAFE uses the shooting sports to teach many valuable life skills. Project SAFE (Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education) provides youth a place to develop a sense of belonging, learn team work in a safe environment and increase concentration skills. Safe and responsible use of firearms is a primary goal. Trained Dade County 4-H volunteer coaches lead teams in BB, 22Rifle, and Shotgun.
S.A.F.E. Discipline Handbooks
BB Rifle - 4th through 9th grades
Our 5-meter BB competitions are scored in four positions: Standing, Sitting, Prone, and Kneeling. Shooters MUST use the 4-H approved BB gun, the Daisy Champion 499, available for purchase at a discount from the County Extension Office. A parent or guardian must be present at practice and competition to load the gun for the shooter.
Shotgun Modified Trap - 6th through 12th grades
Shotgun teams shoot modified trap and sporting clays. Shooters may use any shotgun 12-gauge or smaller. Youth must successfully complete the Georgia Hunter Education course prior to enrolling.
Certified S.A.F.E. Coaches
Any volunteer interested in becoming a certified S.A.F.E coach in any discipline must be screened and attend a three-day coaches training event held in the fall and winter at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. Contact the Extension Office for more details.
As always, sponsorship/donor opportunities are available for Project S.A.F.E.
