Shane Curry - Ag Hero
Today I have the privilege to tell you about our Ag Hero, Mr. Shane Curry. Shane was born in Dublin, Georgia, but grew up in Mt. Vernon Georgia. He graduated from high in May 2001. After graduating from High School he attended Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College (ABAC) in Tifton, Ga. He also attended Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and The University of Georgia (UGA). Mr. Curry is married to Kimberly Craven Curry and has 2 children. Mr. Curry has been an Ag Agent for 14 years. Four Years in Montgomery County and Ten years in Appling County. When asked why he chose the Ag field his response was, I grew up with it and always enjoyed it. He said he use to help plant pecan trees at the age of three. When asked what advice he would give a young person wanting to pursue a career in Agriculture, he replied “Don’t think you have to know everything. Most people want to know you care about the problem and are willing to find a solution.”
Extension Serves the Entire Community
Appling County Extension offers a wealth of information and services for residents of our county. Agents and trained support staff provide educational programs as well as a number of services.
Our Agriculture and Natural Resources agent offers crop, landscape and gardening information to residents, and other classes as well as water and soil testing and access to UGA informative publications.
Our 4-H agent creates and organizes youth educational programs including competitive events which will assist young people to develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility and life skills through experiential learning.
Our Family and Consumer Science agent offers and designs educational programs for the community needs, provides information you can trust on money, home, health, food and family and oversees the EFNEP program which helps families on a budget learn to eat healthy.
