What is the PreventT2 program?

You’re thinking about making healthy changes to prevent type 2 diabetes. PreventT2 is a CDC-recognized diabetes prevention lifestyle change program can help you build healthy new habits that last a lifetime. When you join a lifestyle change program, you’ll learn, laugh, share stories, try new things, and build new habits—all while lowering your risk of type 2 diabetes and improving your health.

The PreventT2 lifestyle change program is a structured program—in person or online—developed specifically to prevent type 2 diabetes. It is designed for people who have prediabetes or are at risk for type 2 diabetes, but who do not already have diabetes.

Lifelong lifestyle changes

A trained lifestyle coach leads the program to help you change certain aspects of your lifestyle, like eating healthier, reducing stress, and getting more physical activity. The program also includes group support from others who share your goals and struggles.

This lifestyle change program is not a fad diet or an exercise class. And it’s not a quick fix. It’s a year-long program focused on long-term changes and lasting results.

A year might sound like a long commitment, but learning new habits, gaining new skills, and building confidence take time. As you begin to eat better and become more active, you’ll notice changes in how you feel, and maybe even in how you look.

Can I prevent type 2?

The good news is that type 2 diabetes is preventable, and you do not have to do it alone. Our PreventT2 lifestyle change program can help you take charge of your health to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Check out the About section for more information about prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, and to determine your risk.

Working Together to Prevent Type Two Diabetes

Did you know that 88 million American adults have prediabetes? And more than 8 in 10 adults with prediabetes don't know they have it. We're working to reduce the impact of Type 2 diabetes.

Congress authorized CDC to establish the NATIONAL DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM (National DPP) — a public-private partnership working to build a nationwide delivery system for a lifestyle change program proven to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes in adults with prediabetes. It brings together many different groups, including heath care organizations, community organizations, private insurers, faith-based organizations, employers, and more.

Research shows that a structured lifestyle intervention can cut the risk of type 2 diabetes in half! Let's get started.
