  • Dec 4 Virtual Childcare Provider Training: Eat a Variety of Foods Childhood obesity is an ongoing problem in the United States, with about 1 in 8 preschoolers classified as overweight or obese. Food preferences and physical activity habits developed in early childhood continue into adulthood. Low consumption of fruits and vegetables, decreased physical activity, increased screen time, and increased consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages contribute to weight gain among 3-5-year-olds. Because about 67% of children under age 6 spend all or part of their day in non-parental care, the ECE environment is an important setting to introduce children to healthy eating habits, including eating a variety of foods using MyPlate. This session will dive into the ECE "Eat Healthy, Be Active" curriculum and discuss implementation strategies for childcare providers. This training is hosted by Appling, Candler/Evans, and Burke County Family and Consumer Sciences Agents. *Registration required: bit.ly/UGAtraining2
