Stephens County Extension offers educational programs in the areas of horticulture and agriculture, leadership and citizenship for youth through Stephens County 4-H, and food safety and nutrition information.
UGA Extension operates through a unique partnership with Stephens County, the University of Georgia, the State of Georgia and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Backed up by specialists and a network of resources, Extension Agents have been bringing research-based information to counties in Georgia since 1914.

Our mission is to extend lifelong learning to Georgia citizens through unbiased, research-based education in agriculture, the environment, communities, youth, and families.

Jan 26 - Feb 28 Journeyman Farmer Small Fruit and Vegetable Training Registration Open for March Classes UGA Extension in Carroll & Paulding Counties are hosting a Journeyman Farmer Certification program that provides comprehensive training for beginning farmers. Registration closes on February 27. Class dates are listed below. The program requires a two-step training: Step 1 - Small Farm Business Planning-In person, Monday March 9 - 9 am until 5 pm. Step 2 – Step 2- Small Fruit & Vegetable Production In-person training (with required at-home, online preparation) Monday, March 16, 23, and 30- 9 am until 4 pm. Step 3- Hands-on-Production & Intern/Mentorship Opportunities -By application, dependent on availability of mentor/intern farm and successful completion of Steps 1 and 2. Cost for Part 1: $25 Cost for Part 2: $75 *Participants must complete Step One Small Farm Business Planning before participating in Step Two. Come raise a glass to the plants that make it all possible. This program qualifies for master gardener continuing education credit.

Jan 29 2026 UGA Horse Owners Webinar Series: Back to Basics The UGA Horse Owner’s Webinar Series: Back to Basics is designed to help horse owners build a strong foundation in equine care and management. This educational series provides practical, up-to-date, research-based information to develop the knowledge and skills needed for responsible horse ownership. Topics will include: introduction to horse ownership, basic behavior and welfare, nutrition and feeding, health management, economics of ownership, and emergency preparedness. In contrast to prior years, 2026 will have one of two formats: two 45 minute presentations on the same night (1/8 and 1/29) or one 1.5 hour presentation (1/15 and 1/22) to accommodate depth of content and an abbreviated 4-week schedule.
