Programs and Services

The Lowndes County Extension Office offers a variety of services including soil and water testing. We provide educational programs, information, and assistance to citizens of Lowndes County through telephone consultations, farmer/homeowner site visits, news articles, and collaboration with other agencies. Our 4-H program keeps students from 5th -12th grade active with a variety of community service activities and learning opportunities. Check out our 4-H Youth Development page for more information.

Dec 23 Threads of Kindness Crochet Circle Cairo, GA - (52.0 miles) We’re excited to launch Threads of Kindness Crochet Circle where creativity meets compassion — open to adults! Whether you’re brand new to crochet or have years of experience, come stitch with us and give back to our community. All items created will be donated to nursing homes, hospital birthing units, shelters, and more. Bring your favorite yarn and crochet hook if you’d like — no experience needed, we’ll learn together. How You and Others Can Help: Donations of yarn, crochet hooks, or other crochet supplies are greatly appreciated. Mar 5 2026 Dougherty County Master Gardener Training Albany, GA - (74.0 miles) Georgia Master Gardener Extension Volunteer program is designed to train volunteers to assist UGA Cooperative Extension Agents in providing unbiased, researched-based horticulture education to the public. The prospective master gardener agrees to volunteer a minimum of 50 hours within a year following the completion of training in extension approved projects. This program covers 50 hours of training in topics ranging from ornamental and landscape plants, turf management, vegetable gardening, organic gardening to basic entomology, weeds, diseases and insect pests of ornamentals and vegetables and their integrated pest management.
