2022 Fresh on DeK Season

The Fresh on DeK team would like to thank the DeKalb County community for an amazing 2022 Season.

Fresh on DeK Mobile Farmer's Market 2022 Season We are dedicated to educating residents of DeKalb County about the importance of healthy eating. This is why for the third year, we have implemented a COVID-19 response model for the Fresh on DeK Mobile Farmer's Market. We have distributed free, pre-bagged produce in food deserts in DeKalb County, and held weekly virtual nutrition and healthy living educational sessions for 16 weeks, from May- September. During the 16 week Fresh on DeK season, we distributed pre-bagged produce to 11,030 DeKalb County Residents residing in food deserts throughout the county. Fresh on DeK selected 16 sites in DeKalb County to service. Each of the sites had to be in a food desert. Fresh on DeK defines a food desert as being a location that does not have a major retailer selling fresh produce within one mile. About 15.6% of all Fresh on DeK participants also received SNAP benefits. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) provides nutrition benefits to families that meet certain income and resource limitations. The estimated economic value of the 71,700 lbs. of produced distributed this season was about $125,500. This dollar amount reflects the amount of money that DeKalb County residents saved by participating in this program.
