Homebuyer Education Seminars

Homebuyer Education Seminars provide a holistic perspective regarding the home buying process. Participants gain insight from expert facilitators including: 

  • HUD Certified Housing Counselor
  • Licensed Real Estate Agent
  • Licensed Insurance Agent
  • Licensed Mortgage Officer
  • Licensed Home Inspector and Appraiser


Low-Income Housing

UGA Extension connects citizens in need of low-income housing solutions to available community resources. Through partnerships with Jonesboro Housing Authority and Clayton County Housing Authority, the Housing and Consumer Economics links participants with housing options to fit their particular needs. Completing the Financial Literacy and Budgeting course is a mandatory requirement for participation in this program. The overall goal of this program is to empower individuals to become self-sufficient and break the cycle of poverty. 


ESI (Emergency Shelter Initiative)

The Emergency Shelter Initiative (ESI) is a program designed to provide emergency shelter assistance to Clayton County residents who have been displaced from their homes due to unforeseen circumstances. UGA Clayton County Extension works collaboratively with the Clayton County Housing Authority to assist residents who present an imminent risk of being homeless or are currently living in uninhabitable conditions. The goal of the program is to allow participants time to obtain adequate housing on a more permanent basis.

Who May Be Eligible?

  • Families living in uninhabitable situations (automobiles, underpasses, unsanitary sub-housing structures)
  • Families of immediate danger due to domestic violence
  • Veterans
  • Elderly residents with limited resources
  • Families with male children over the age of 14

Applicants must undergo a screening processand present a verifiable source of income. 


Financial Literacy and Budgeting

The Financial Literacy and Budgeting course emphasizes budgeting techniques and strategies to improve participants' financial well-being. Topics addressed range from:

  1. Making It and Keeping It
  2. Digging Out of Debt
  3. Options for Savings
  4. Being Financially Prepared

Classes are held from 6:00-7:00pm at UGA Extension Clayton County

 

Homebuyer Education Seminars

Upon completion of the one-day course, participants receive a certificate that may qualify them for down-payment assistance incentives. Seminars are held on Saturdays. The cost of seminar is $25.00 per participant due in cash at the beginning of each event.
