How do I become a Master Gardener?

Our new class of Master Gardeners began training in January 2022!

To become a certified Master Gardener you must enroll in the Master Gardener Training Program offered through your county. Contact Deborah Xavier-Mis at 706-883-1675 (email : deborah.xaviermis@uga.edu) for more information.

The training program provides more than 40 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction.

The purpose of the UGA MGEV Training Program is to train volunteers to complement, enhance, and support the educational efforts fo the local UGA Cooperative Extension Office. As such, the Troup County MGEV Training Program is a selective process. In order to be cnsidered for the volunteer training program, you must fill out all forms and applications and submit a check for training fees (refundable if not selected). The fee includes the costs fo the training manuals, materials and name badge.

If selected to participate in the program, you will be required to complete a background check, attend at least 80% of all the training classes and programs, pass a midterm and final exam and volunteer 50 hours after graduation to the Troup County Extension Office. In order to maintain MGEV Certification 25 hours of volunteer service per year are required every year thereafter.
