Our mission is to advance the well-being of individuals and families over their life span and strengthen communities through the generation and dissemination of knowledge, education of professionals, and provision of research-based programs.

            The Rockdale County Extension office offers classes on the following topics:

        nutrition and healthy living       chronic disease prevention     food safety and ServSafe

Family and Consumer Sciences Agents provide non-biased, research-based information on home food preservation, food safety, healthy eating habits, personal financial management, parenting and healthy teen relationships.

MaryBeth Hornbeck is Rockdale County's Family and Consumer Sciences Agent. In this role, her aim is to help local citizens lead healthy and balanced lives by linking them with reliable information from the University of Georgia. MaryBeth especially enjoys looking for new ways to make vegetables more delicious and appealing to everyone. She is excited to serve Rockdale County and looks forward to encouraging healthy living not only through food choices but also through the development of healthy lifestyle habits.

As an expert in food science and food safety, MaryBeth holds a master's degree in food science and technology from the University of Georgia and a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. With extensive training in science, she has learned to apply her problem solving skills in ways that couple well with her goal of helping and serving people.  As a Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, she is prepared to lead classes on foods and nutrition, families, housing and environment, finances, and chronic disease prevention.

  • Feb 11 - Feb 23 Journeymen Farmer Certificate Program UGA Extension in Carroll and Paulding Counties are hosting the Journeymen Farmer program that provides a comprehensive training for beginning farmers. The program requires a three-step training and focuses on production of small ruminants. The first two steps will take place over the course of three days. The third step will take place over the spring/summer. The program will be $75 per person. Registration deadline is February 4.   • Feb 18 Northeast Georgia Soybean Production Meeting UGA Extension Specialists will discuss latest production information for soybean producers related to varieties, agronomics, disease and weed control. One hour of pesticide credit will be offered as part of this training. Lunch will be provided. Following this production meeting, the UGA Using Pesticides Wisely Training will be hosted at the same location. This training is required for any producers wishing to use Xtendimax, Engenia, or Fexapan products. Elberton, GA - (80.0 Miles)
